The Law Of Attraction And Christianity
72When it comes to the law of attraction and Christianity, here is what every Christian needs to know.
Most Christians who criticize the law of attraction, do so from a belief that pursuing material wealth is bad. They reason that Christians should rely on God for their needs and not themselves. If God wants them to have it, He will supply it.
In fact, Christ’s teachings on faith and the principles of the law of attraction as set out in The Secret by Rhonda Byrne are the same. Furthermore, as physicists continue to study quantum mechanics, they are learning that human thought can affect the quantum particles that make up all matter in the universe.
As a Christian, I would like you to consider the possibility that the law of attraction can be available to all mankind, including Christians, regardless of religion.
Christian Criticism Of The Secret
Many Christians, including those who have never taken the time to watch The Secret, have expressed criticism of the Secret when they compare the law of attraction and the bible.
They reason is that the law of attraction (and The Secret) place an unhealthy emphasis upon the pursuit of material wealth.
By using the law of attraction to supply our needs, they reason that you are taking God out of the equation and denying his will (or purpose) for our lives.
I disagree.
Happiness And The Purpose Of Life
However, I believe that the purpose of life is to be happy (not hedonistic, but happy). Most people have never examined their purpose in life long enough to discover what really makes them happy.
Instead, they blindly pursue hedonistic pleasures instead of true happiness. Find out what truly makes you happy and you will know what you want whether material or spiritual.
God Wants Happiness For His Children
God is a parent.
I believe God created us for the same reason that we create our own children. He wants someone to give love and receive love. He wants us to be happy. Luke 11:9-13.
When we find what makes us happy, we find God’s purpose in our lives ;and, we give God the ability to express his nature through us.
God Expresses His Nature Through Us
God loves beauty. He creates some people with the desire to be artists and sculptors.God loves music, so he creates some children with the desire to sing and play musical instruments. God loves charity, so he creates some people with the desire to give to others.
But, artists need paint and clay. Musicians need instruments. And, yes, philanthropists need money.
Once you learn that God’s purpose for you in life is whatever makes you happy, you can believe that it is okay for God to supply all of your material as well as spiritual needs.
The Secret, The Law Of Attraction And The Bible
Most Christians, even those who have watched the Secret DVD (Or read The Secret book or The Secret TV interviews) do not understand that the principles underlying the law of attraction is entirely consistent with the Christian concept of living by faith.
The Secret’s Concept Of The Law Of Attraction
According the Secret, the process for using the law of attraction is to Ask, Believe and Receive.
- Ask: You must ask from the heart in Ernest. You must always remain positive on it. Negative thoughts can prevent it from coming into being. Whether big or small you can create it in your life.
- Believe: See what you want in your mind and own it. Be Certain it is yours, feel it. Feeling it leads to a stronger belief. Replace negative and self defeating thoughts with positive affirmations and gratitude.
- Receive: Anticipate receiving what you asked for. It is real and wants to be a part of you. When you see it coming to you accept it for it is your birthright. You run your life. Enjoy and be grateful for everything in your life, even those things that have not yet arrived.
- Matthew 21:22. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.
- Mark 11:24. Therefore I say unto you, What things so ever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
- Luke 11:9. So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
- John 16: 24. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
The Christian Concept Of Faith
If you examine Jesus’ teachings in all four of the gospels, you will find that his message of living by faith is the same as that of the principles underlying the law of attraction.
Now, as a Christian you could argue that Christ did not mean what He was saying or that I am somehow taking the verses out of context. But, you could accept that Jesus was telling the literal truth in these verses as well as the multitude of verses that I did not include.
I choose to believe that
Jesus’ words were literal truth and that I can trust his teaching to be
applicable in my own life. As such, I believe the law of attraction and christianity are consistent with each other.
The Miracles Of Jesus
Most of Jesus’ miracles were performed in response to a need for material things. Let’s take a look at a few:
- Wine. When Jesus needed wine, he turned water into wine. John 2:1-11.
- Abundance. When the apostles needed to catch fish, he manifested a large catch when the apostles placed their nets on the other side of the boat. Luke 5:4-10.
- Safety. When the apostles feared that their boat would capsize, Jesus calmed the storm. Matthew 8:23-27.
- Food. When Jesus needed food to feed the multitude, he manifested it out of nothing. Matthew 14:13-21.
- Money. When Jesus needed money to pay the temple tax, he had an apostle pull it out of the mouth of a fish. Matthew 17:24-27.
- Destruction. He cursed and killed the fig tree to teach the apostles. Mark 11:12-14,20-26.
Jesus told his apostles that they would perform even greater miracles. John 14:1-12.
If God’s word is universal and true, then it is true for all mankind, not just Christians. Is it heresy to consider that other non-Christians might have stumbled upon this truth as well?
I believe that the reason that the biblical concept of faith and the law of attraction are true is that both are based upon scientific principles that man is only beginning to understand.
What Do You Think?
Does the law of attraction contradict Christianity
See results without votingYesterday's "Magic" Is Tomorrow's "Science"
Throughout history, Christians have had a nasty habit of being diametrically opposed to advances in science. But, as time has passed, Christians and non-Christians alike, know that:
- The world is not flat.
- The Earth is not the center of the universe
- “Witches” drown just like anyone else.
Medieval Stone Masons And Occult Knowledge
In medevial times, stone masons were considered to possess
strange occult powers.
These craftsmen
were often observed performing strange rituals with pendulums, triangles,
strange writings and tools. They could
predict distances with precision. They
could stack bricks in such a way as to form an arch. As a result of their “magic”, whatever they built was magically
square and stable.
When common folks
stacked bricks, they fell down. When
masons stacked bricks they became impenetrable castles and cathedrals, many of
which are standing today.
In fact. Masons were so special that they could cross borders from one country to the next without the permission of the kings or the church.

They were able to perform these special feats of “magic” through their knowledge of mathematics, including algebra (Babylonian), trigonometry (Greek, Indian, and Muslim), geometry (Eqyptian)and the Pythagorean Theorem (Egyptian).
Many of the concepts in all of these mathematical disciplines were first translated by Muslim scholars in the 10th century.

Do we refuse to enjoy the benefits of chemistry due to its occult origins in the science of alchemy?
Of course not.
Using the law of attraction does not make me any less of a Christian than drinking coffee makes one an Arab.
Quantum Physics And The Law Of Attraction
As scientists continue to learn more about the quantum universe, they are beginning to understand the implications of Einstein’s equation (E=MC2). Energy and matter have a physical relationship.
Matter is made up of
quantum particles. These quantum
particles are energy. Thought is
energy. Scientists are only now
learning of a phenomenon called the “observer effect.” The physicists discovered this effect by
studying quantum particles, which are the smallest observable units of matter.
These particles behaved in alignment with what the person conducting the
experiment expected them to do.
Today’s “magic” is often tomorrow’s science.
I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. Luke 18:17
The Law Of Attraction, Bible And Christianity
Now, do you see what I mean about the secret law of attraction and Christianity?
Most Christians simply aren’t aware that the law of attraction complements the biblical concept of faith.
It is not wrong to ask for material gifts from God.
God created his children to happily fulfill His purpose for their
lives.
He gave us a desire to acquire the materials to create a reality that will maximize our happiness.
The process of acquiring these materials, whether through the law of attraction or biblically based faith, is to
Ask, Believe and Receive.
I believe that this is because the law of attraction is based upon the scientific principles only beginning to be discovered in quantum physics. These principles can be applied by all of mankind, regardless of religion or creed.
I can choose to believe that we are at the mercy of a random, cold, dead universe; or, I can choose to believe that the universe is alive and pulsing with the energy of divinity that Christians believe dwells within us all.
I choose to believe the latter.
So the next time you
hear a discussion about the secret law of attraction and Christianity,
consider the possibility that the secret and Christianity are not so
diametrically opposed after all.

Incredible hub..thank you for all of your detailed information!
Faith without works is dead or you could say faith without works is the "law of attraction". Read Hebrews carefully, faith - real faith is followed by action not just happy magical thoughts. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you." Matt 6:33 Kingdom of God first, then the "goods". As for that "energy of divinity that dwells with in you", that is not Jesus. The Bible tells us to have faith in God, not quantum physics as proof of God, he gave us many things on this earth to proove He exists and still there will be some who deny Him - incredible. You obviously have not heard the gospel - Jesus indwells the true believer, He is the second person of the Godhead, a man - not energy- how does He do this, I do not know it is a mystery. He was born of a virgin named Mary, He came to the earth He created by His spoken word(not thoughts) and lived among us. He lead a sinless life aided by the Holy Spirit (the thrid person of the Godhead- He is a spirit like God the Father - not energy), Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead and taught about The Kingdom of God - His Father -to come, and the world he created hated Him for it. He willingly died for our sins (please see Exodus 20 for the top 10)making blood attonment - taking our penalty and was raised from the dead and recieved his regenerated body, ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father awaiting the time of His second coming to rule and reign for 1000 years - that is when there will be total world peace and not anytime before. If you are really a Christian then you need to read the Bible and take it as the final authority - not the Secret. If what I have said makes no sense to you or it insults your intellect then you are not saved. Just confess your sins, put your trust in Jesus to save you from them and the penalty of eternal damnation in hell, find a church that teaches the Word of God and not the doctrine of men.
Haha... My favorite line in all of that is "If what I have said makes no sense to you or it insults your intellect then you are not saved."
Well thank you very much... I guess that means YOU'RE the final authority Kathy.
Douglas, you've done a fabulous job on this Hub. I've been a Christian for over 20 years and my spiritual journey has brought me to the same place you are now. Keep up the great work here on Hubpages and at SuccessHound.com.
Hi Doug, I'm a Christian and a believer in Christ. I totally agree with your article above. I've only started researching 'The Law of Attraction' and I'm really looking forward to putting it into practice. The message of Jesus was to tell us about the Law and how it can move mountains. There's a bible verse 'There I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.' (Mark 11:24 NKJV) This to me is an example of the Law. I believe Christians who have their heads in the sand are missing out on wonderful lives if they think this way. The Law of attraction gives good things to people who believe positively and have joy in their lives....is this not the same as 'Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you'? The kindom of God is joy and happiness and once you have these everything else will follow. Anyway Peace my Friend. Keith
Hi Doug,
I'm a teen just discovering and researching about the Law of Attraction. I don't believe that it is a evil thing at all, unless you use it purely and purposely for evil. To me, it is just as your parents say when you are little: You can be anything you want to be if you set your mind to it. That's all it is. People are making this too complicated. If you think negatively then you will live negatively. If you think positively then you will live in a positive way. The whole "taking away God's will for your life" thing to me is a little bogus. If you ask for something and then you don't receive it then obviously that is not what God wanted for you, and he will find something better for you, that will benefit you more in one way or another. God wants you to be happy. He wants you to find your way to him and his will. He won't just make you suffer. If you need money, he will find a way to get it to you. God only wants what's best for you even if you don't think it is what's best for you. That's all.

Rachel:
I think your discovery will save you a lot of heartache over your lifetime. Learning the law of attraction takes only a moment, while learning to live it day to day takes - well - a couple of years. I can tell you that the journey has been worth it for me.
Good sid "Kathygirl22" = real faith is followed by action not just happy magical thoughts.
But LOA is also a true fact common to all people, not only for christian.
Believe your wills, focus and work it...

I really enjoyed reading your article. It really made me do alot of thinking about faith and when I say I have faith. I asked my wife about her faith in God tonight, and she told me that she believes when she ask; so my next question to her was, if you believe when you pray, why try to solve the problem yourself. i informed her that that is not true faith. I believe that the problem with most of "US" christians is that we say we believe, but we really don't. I am a theology student and I also have a degree in religion. The one thing I have learned about exegesis of scripture is that we read scripture but we do not truly research what we read, because we have a worldly mind set. i have been researching the Law of Attraction for a while and believe that the reason people are turned off by it, is because we have been train to think that it is not possible. Being a preacher, I preach on faith and trusting in God and letting Him direct you path "Proverbs 3:5-6" i don't claim to know it all, but when my son was born, who is now 17 months old, I grasp a new concept about God my Father, and the concept of wanting what is best for my son and all his hopes and dreams. Just as God wants what's best for His children, so do I. I don't believe that God created us just to watch us suffer; that defeats the purpose of His sovereignty. We just to make harsh statements and we truly don't understand the words, or we just assume what the words mean. I really did enjoy reading it. God Bless!

Dr. Dyer,
I was thoroughly captured by your article! To, by chance, read an article from another Christian who gets it...and YOU are educated formally. Everything I know I've learned from my own pursuit at home. The subject of quantum physics and the relationship God has with it, is infinitely intriguing to me and I hope that I read much, much more of what you have to write. Thank you:)
